About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Beltsville, MD, Swahili Village is a vibrant African restaurant that brings the rich flavors and warm hospitality of the Swahili coast right to your table. From the moment you step inside, the inviting atmosphere—with its lively yet comfortable energy—is the perfect backdrop for a culinary journey across East Africa’s beloved dishes.

The cuisine here is a celebration of authentic, bold flavors, expertly crafted to excite your palate. Signature offerings like the Beef Samosa provide a crispy, spiced start that teases your taste buds, while the Nyama Bites offer succulent smoky grilled beef cubes seasoned with fragrant Swahili spices, presenting a tender, savory delight with every bite. Don’t miss the Nyama Choma Pilau & Sukuma Wiki, where perfectly grilled meat meets aromatic pilau rice and fresh sukuma wiki (collard greens), creating a harmonious explosion of textures and tastes that feels both hearty and refined.

Swahili Village’s menu also shines with unique offerings such as the Goat Stew with Pilau and Spinach, robust and comforting, and the Beef Suya, bursting with a rich, spicy marinade that lingers just right on the tongue. The Swahili Village Platter is ideal for sharing, giving a perfect sampler of their skilled culinary range. Appetizer lovers will appreciate the Wings & Fries with a crispy, juicy finish, especially when dipped in their coveted spicy sauce, which customers like to ask for to amp up the flavor.

What makes Swahili Village stand out is not just the food, but the thoughtfully curated drink menu featuring creative cocktails like the Lamu Mojito—a refreshing blend of rum, mint, and lime with a tropical twist—and the luxurious Kilimanjaro Crown, a top-shelf concoction with premium spirits and layered tropical flavors that impress cocktail enthusiasts. For a non-alcoholic option, their Mango Lassi and house-made Ginger Beer offer wonderfully refreshing complements to the spice-filled food.

Visitors praise the lively ambiance that’s perfect for both casual lunches and vibrant weekend evenings. The venue comes alive especially on Fridays and Saturdays with a live DJ creating an upbeat, celebratory vibe that enhances the dining experience without overwhelming conversation. While some guests find the pricing on the higher side, they agree the portions are generous and the quality undeniable.

Customer feedback highlights a mostly warm and friendly service environment, with particular mention of staff like Adam, who is noted for being attentive and personable. Some suggest there’s room for improvement in service consistency, yet the overall experience keeps them coming back time and again. Frequent patrons like Trish highlight their loyalty, visiting multiple times each month to enjoy the fantastic food and electric atmosphere.

Whether you’re seeking a flavorful lunch special—such as the comforting Curry Chicken Combo served with Jollof rice—or indulging in the vibrant happy hour cocktails and signature dishes in the evening, Swahili Village offers a flavorful escape that expertly balances tradition and contemporary flair. It’s a hidden gem tucked within Beltsville’s shopping center scene, delivering a genuine taste of African culinary artistry that resonates deeply with its community and newcomers alike.

The food is expensive but delicious. They could improve their customer service by paying more attention to customers' needs. However, the atmosphere is great, and the noise level is manageable. If not for the service, I would give it a 5-star rating.

Love this spot! The food is excellent. The servers are excellent. Drinks are off the chain. I go to the spot at least 3 to 4 times a month. Check them out.. DJ is live on Friday’s and Saturday nights…

The waitor Adam was very friendly and helpful. The appetizers were nice, the chicken wings were crispy and juicy. The group platter had a decent portion and I liked the grilled goat. Although slightly salty, it feels just right if eating with the rice. Would recommend asking for their hot sauce!

The food is wonderful! This is an unexpected gem in the middle of an old neighborhood shopping center in Beltsville, MD. Last visit was a group of 6 and everyone was very satisfied with the taste and portion size of every dish.

This spot hits every time I go there. The food and atmosphere are great. Of course, it’s busy on Fridays so good to reserve in advance. But of course I had to get my whole tilapia (with the head on) because it’s my favorite. Africans can make great tilapia. My island people make snapper well too.
